Barty, Serena on US Open collision course

Reigning champ Osaka heads to New York striving for form fitness and fun

Djokovic is since Roger Federer, that starts from a qualifier at an identical half the attraction. Kuznetsova, the 2004 US Open champion, had a stirring run to the Cincinnati final last week, beating Barty and Stephens in the process.

Organisers of the 2019 US Open approaches have confirmed the umpire who was in charge of last year's dramatic women's singles final will not officiate any of Serena Williams' matches this year.

Djokovic, the defending men's singles champion aiming to win a third Grand Slam in 2019, faces unheralded Roberto Carballes Baena first but could be set for a daunting run in NY.

Osaka is the top seed in the women's draw. The Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova is No. 3, followed by Romania's Simona Halep and Ukraine's Elina Svitolina.

French Open victor Ash Barty is seeded second behind Japan's Osaka, followed by Czech Karolina Pliskova and Wimbledon champion Simona Halep.

Federer has a less accomplished quarter of the draw with no other Grand Slam winners. They met in a classic final at Wimbledon, where Djokovic won in a fifth-set tie-breaker.

Djokovic's road could include American Sam Querrey in the second round, 2016 U.S. Open champ Stan Wawrinka in the fourth and red-hot Russian Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals.

Five-time champion Federer faces a qualifier first up, while on the other side of the draw Rafael Nadal has a tricky first-round meeting with John Millman, who upset Federer in round four a year ago.

Serena Williams, who turns 38 in September, is seeking a record 24th major singles title, tying her with Margaret Court for the most all time, and her first since the 2017 Australian Open, when she was pregnant.

Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev could all prove potential roadblocks for Nadal in the latter stages.
