Asteroid size of Great Pyramid of Giza to skim Earth

Asteroid bigger than US` Empire State Building to pass by Earth on Saturday

First spotted in 2006, hence the name, the 1,870ft-diameter juggernaut will make its closest approach to Earth on Saturday at 3:23 am EDT, according to NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS). NEOs that are "potentially hazardous" are space objects that measure more than 460 feet in diameter and come within 0.05 astronomical units of our planet.

The asteroid is 164 meters in diameter and its size is nearly equivalent to the Washington monument.

According to the Astronomers, this asteroid causes no immediate threat.

454094 2013 BZ45 has been identified as an Apollo asteroid. NASA Has Discovered a Rare Double Asteroid 2017 YE5 Revolving Around Each Other. As it goes through its path around these cosmic bodies, it intersects with the orbit of Earth at certain points.

At this distance, it can be classified as a near-Earth asteroid.

However, Sitthiporn Duantakhu, an official of the NARIT (National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand), announced that, even though authorities are watching the evolution of the QQ23 asteroid's trajectory, there is no need to panic.

"Potentially hazardous asteroids are now defined based on parameters that measure the asteroid's potential to make threatening close approaches to the Earth", CNEOS said in a statement. As asteroids orbit the Sun like planets, they are minor planets.

454094 2013 BZ45 was first observed on January 19, 2013.

In comparison, the moon is about 0.38 million kilometers from Earth.

After its visit this week, the asteroid is expected to return to Earth's neighborhood on August 27, 2021.

However, putting the fear of several people that it might collide with Earth, Lindley Johnson and Kelly Fast of NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office told the CNN that there was nothing to fear since it was a moderate-sized asteroid almost five million miles away and it was "more or less benign".
