Actor Danny Trejo Helps Save Baby Trapped in Car in LA

Trejo, 75, told television station KABC-TV he was on his way to an auto mechanic in L.A.'s Sylmar neighborhood when he saw a motorist run a red light and crash into another vehicle, which flipped over onto its roof in the intersection. The overturned vehicle was sitting on its roof and had a baby strapped into a auto seat inside.

Video aired by KABC-TV shows Trejo at the crash scene. "A young lady had to crawl through the window because I couldn't get the baby out-I couldn't unbuckle the seat belt", he says, per KTLA5. Another female bystander also stepped in to assist from the other side of the vehicle.

"There was a baby inside and a grandma", Trejo told ABC 7.

Together they pulled the baby safely from the wreckage.

Afterward, he told ABC News cameras, "Pay attention", he said, "And the only thing that saved that little kid was his vehicle seat, honest to God".

A reporter from ABC7 said afterward that Trejo distracted the boy until his grandmother was okay.

The actor said that he has worked with special needs children before so he knew how to keep the little boy calm. So he screamed "superpowers" and we started yelling "superpowers".

"We got kind of a bond. I kept facing him away from the accident".

Three people were hospitalized as a result, but by the time first responders arrived none of the victims needed to be extricated, according to Margaret Stewart with the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Trejo, an LA native, is best known for playing the character Machete from the Spy Kids series.
