Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Evo 2019 Tournament is Largest in Franchise History

Evo 2019 Entrant Numbers

Ultimate. An earlier tweet confirms that this makes it the biggest Smash showing at Evo, and with almost 3,500 participants stepping up to their Switches to play, there's sure to be some great matches. The biggest fighting game event of the year is bringing numerous best fighters to Las Vegas, along with their very best players from around the world.

That ends with Evo 2019 when, at last, a worthy "Melee" successor will take over. Ultimate. Smash has always had a high number of entrants in the past, but to see a game that's just half a year old have the most entrants in the tournament is a testament to Smash Ultimate's lasting power.

Welcoming contestants from all over the world, Evo will be celebrating its 18th year in 2019 and its status as the location for the largest ever "Super Smash Bros." tournament.

Surprisingly, Dragon Ball FighterZ managed to surpass 1000 entrants. Melee shuffled to the sidelines, it left Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Fighter Pass with the tagline "Hero Joins the Battle" alongside Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Fortnite Season Nine and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order.

3492 people are those who have made a decision to join the challenge of Super Smash Bros.

These numbers were revealed by Evo president Joey Cuellar, and as reported by Dot Esports, Ultimate's 3,492 entrants for this year's competition was 35% higher than last year's first-place entry, Dragon Ball FighterZ. For more information, visit EVO's official site. A show to which we must add the presence of other titles that have traditionally gone to previous editions of the event, such as Street Fighter V or Tekken 7.

EVO 2019 kicks off from sunny Las Vegas, and will run from August 2-4. Of course, seeing these folks play will undoubtedly be even more impressive when the tournament kicks off August 2.
