Ocasio-Cortez Goes After Ivanka Trump: ‘She’s Not A Qualified Diplomat’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez speaks during a hearing on Capitol Hill

The daughter of US President Donald Trump is being criticised for an awkward moment at the G20 summit in Japan last week.

President Trump ordered officials to grant security clearances to his daughter and son-in-law against their recommendations, and the process by which Ivanka, Kushner, and others secured their top-secret clearances is the subject of an investigation by House Democrats.

In a video Ocasio-Cortez shared, Ivanka is seen attempting to participate in a discussion alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Theresa May, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

This wasn't lost on many folks on Twitter, from celebrities like Alyssa Milano to New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who chimed in wondering why Donald himself wasn't present, and why he didn't send an actual career diplomat to attend the summit.

The French presidential palace released footage of the awkward conversation on its Instagram account, showing the U.S. president's daughter, Ivanka Trump chatting with a host of heavyweight political players including French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Theresa May, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde.

But Christine Lagarde, who is stood between May and Trump, appears to shoot the President's daughter a cold look before glaring at Trudeau.

The leaders' eye contact and body language then moves away from Ivanka Trump.

While it is not totally clear, Ivanka seems to interrupt Macron as to agree him as he says something about "social justice".

The footage renewed scrutiny about Ivanka's role in the White House, which began as she started informally advising her father when his presidency began.

Huckabee Sanders replied that AOC is "wasting your time on Twitter while destroying jobs in NY" whereas Donald and Ivanka Trump have created millions of jobs. "We'd probably have healthcare and living wages by now", she said.

"She's one of the smartest people I know, as well as one of the most loyal, diligent & decent".
