Murray rules out US Open singles return

Serena Williams Wimbledon

I will also stick around for Andy Murray and Serena Williams v Fabrice Martin 14 and Raquel Atawo 14 in the second round of the mixed doubles too.

Williams reached the Wimbledon semifinals Tuesday by gutting out a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win over 55th-ranked Alison Riske. "I wouldn't have won that match a couple weeks ago", Williams said. "I have more matches this week than literally the past five months".

But the Wimbledon draw has opened up for Williams after emerging from the toughest quarter of the women's singles bracket, which also featured world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty and defending champion Angelique Kerber, who defeated Williams in last year's final.

Reports emerged on Monday claiming Williams had been fined $10,000 (£8,021) by Wimbledon organisers for damaging one of the practice courts with her racket on June 30, the day before the start of the tournament.

Olympia is, of course, an active supporter of her mom and is often seen at her matches with Williams' husband and Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian. This is not the first time Williams has been fined at Wimbledon. Serena and Murray weren't broken once during the entire match, saving both break points faced. But she eventually held serve in a game that featured six deuces, and then broke back to make it 4-3. Riske converted all five break points she generated. Williams has seven titles on the grass of the All-England Club and was runner-up three times.

Garbiñe Muguruza, the 2017 Wimbledon champion, has split with her coach of about four years, Sam Sumyk. She is now ranked 27th and lost in the first round at this year's Wimbledon tournament.

Williams damaged the court after throwing her racket during practice before the Wimbledon tournament began, the BBC reported.

This isn't the first time the superstar has had to fork over cash for damaging a court. After beating teenage sensation Coco Gauff in straight sets, Halep will take on Zhang Shuai of China in the quarterfinals.

The last time the 37-year-old Williams was this close to a Grand Slam crown, in the 2018 US Open final, it devolved into tear-filled chaos that she is still trying to get over.
