More rainfall and thunderstorms on way with weather warning issued

Met Office warning of thunderstorms

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as another thunderstorm is set to hit Leeds this week.

She said: "Some more rain to come across northern parts of the country today". Otherwise it will be a dry day with patchy cloud and sunny spells.

The Met Office meteorologist Mark Wilson said parts of the south-west and Wales will have heavy downpours and could get 30-40mm of rain.

The areas most affected by the rain will likely sit just below 20C for the day.

Nationally, the big weather news on Monday morning is that the lower Mississippi River is expected to soon fall below flood stage for the first time in about seven months, according to AccuWeather.

The Met Office yellow weather warning is in place on Tuesday for Wales and the southwest of England.

The thunderstorm could cause flash flooding or deep floodwater causing damage to homes and businesses.

There were 20 flood warnings in place across north-west England on Monday morning, affecting parts of south Manchester, Rochdale and the Yorkshire market towns of Todmorden and Hebden Bridge.

Thunderstorms are expected to hit parts of the United Kingdom with a risk of more flooding following a weekend of heavy rain, forecasters have warned. It will become cloudier and windier towards the southwest as a fairly deep area of low pressure arrives to the southwest over the Atlantic, with showers, locally heavy, spreading in across SW England and eventually south Wales.

"Whilst not all places will see them, a few slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon".

Heading into next week, heavy showers and thunderstorms could return to parts of the United Kingdom on Monday and into Tuesday, while temperatures are likely to be back to normal for the time of year.
