Microsoft Teams surges ahead with 13M users, likely surpassing Slack

Microsoft Teams hits 13 million daily active users, potentially more than Slack

Announcements are now part of Microsoft Teams.

The surge of Microsoft Teams comes as rival Slack continues to draw attention following its last month's IPO.

Microsoft Team, with 13 million users has successfully surpassed its closest competitor Slack which has 10 million daily active users.

Teams combines chat, videoconferencing, voice-over-IP calling and file-access capabilities for end users.

Next, users can clock in and out using Microsoft Teams. Possibly, but new priority notifications that ping your phone every two minutes for up to 20 minutes may not be especially welcomed.

Microsoft didn't provide an update on how many businesses were using Teams, but as of March the number was more than 500,000 organizations, including 91 percent of Fortune 100 firms. With the "Announcements" feature, Teams users can highlight important message in a channel. For IT pros, Microsoft noted that Teams is now available to Office 365 Business and Office 365 ProPlus subscribers, which was announced last month.

So, these are worrying statistics for Slack, with Microsoft apparently making good progress, despite the fact that many respondents to the survey didn't think Teams was actually as good as Slack. Team owners can also message everyone from the same role with a single @ mention. The company says it will preserve partners' ability to use a wide range of its software in their day-to-day business operations without signing up for expensive traditional licensing plans. There's a sneaky control for managers associated with this feature because they have an "option to geo-fence a location to ensure team members are at the designated worksite when clocking in or out". "Our portfolio of programmes, offers and resources for companies partnering with Microsoft is transforming to help them capitalize on this opportunity", Schuster added during the "Microsoft Inspire 2019" event. "And coming in August, we're launching a Teams trial offering that will allow Microsoft 365 partners to initiate six-month trials for customers", said Microsoft in a release. Use of Amazon Web Services and Google Docs, both of which Microsoft has competing products for, is also strongly discouraged.

"Your partnership and trust matters to us", wrote Gavriella Schuster, the corporate vice president in charge of Microsoft's One Commercial Partner Organization, in a post Friday morning.

Microsoft Teams provides a complete online meeting solution that includes online meetings, live broadcasts, Microsoft Team Rooms, cloud video interoperability and audio conferencing. Workforce management solutions integration with Teams is another ongoing partner effort.
