The Duchess of Cambridge made another picture-perfect appearance on Monday when she arrived at Hampton Court Palace for a special preview of the annual Garden Festival, where she is displaying a special child-friendly garden, featuring numerous elements from her original Chelsea Flower Show design. The Duchess wore a £260 printed dress for the Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival on Monday, .

At one point, Kate confided in a shy Khareesha James, eight, taking her into a fabric-covered den in the garden for a private chat - and told her she likes to hide in them when she is feeling shy.

Kate first guided youngsters from local Hampton Hill Junior School supported by Place2Be, a children's mental health charity, around her garden on an insect hunt, then took a group of children from Anna Freud Centre, Evelina Children's Hospital and Action for Children for a tour.

The garden Kate co-designed with award-winning landscape architects Andrée Davies and Adam White for the Chelsea Flower Show was a huge success, with visitors queuing for up to two hours to view the space.

Kate said last month that she wants her children to be outdoors in their garden "rain or shine", encouraging them to spend time outside whatever the weather, believing "it encourages creativity, confidence". "She was very hands on, it was fantastic".

The Duchess of Cambridge spoke to some of the children on her way into the garden. "In the garden, families can explore together and enjoy nature as a playground".

The design has the same wild and natural feel but has been developed further in order to create additional opportunities for children and families to interact with nature. The expanded garden adds in fun features to stimulate engagement with nature and free play, including a hill, a bee-friendly meadow and a pond to paddle in.

"In addition to the physical and mental health benefits of being in nature, spending quality time with parents and carers outside has a valuable impact on children's early development", they added.
