He noted that Da Brat was the very first female rapper to go platinum and eventually, female acts were outperforming their male counterparts, something that nobody expected. I feel they're all rapping about the same thing. "I don't think they're showing us who's the best rapper", Dupri told People. If you were right, then how do I know so many female rappers that are so qualified, and so talented and so clever, who don't just talk about sex, like I do.
Naturally, Cardi B, who is both a great rapper and a former stripper, did not take kindly to this.
"I can't really say", Dupri responded before the host specifically asked about Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B.
"First of all, I rap about my p- because she's my best friend, and second of all, it's because it seems like that's what people want to hear", Cardi stated bluntly in her Instagrampost. "Second of all, it seems like that's what people want to hear", the Invasion of Privacy rapper said. The Atlanta rapper and producer recently sat for an interview with People, and he spent some time talking about Da Brat, the '90s rap star whose career he helped shepherd.
Cardi went on to argue that the negative reaction she got to her song "Be Careful", which is about being cheated on and having her heart broken (she's denied it's about her husband, rapper Offset), is partly the reason why she says she's "gonna start rapping about my pussy again". When she released her unexpectedly emotional single "Be Careful", after the huge success of "Bodak Yellow", she continued, fans were disappointed that she took a different, more vulnerable route.
"After all the calls, DMs, angry tweets and other messages saying 'I am a major gatekeeper in the hip hop world, why don't I invest in a female who is out here hustling and making a name for herself?'" he wrote.
Cardi then defended the female rappers whose lyrics aren't about sex and don't get industry support. Most people that are at the top like her don't do this often and if they do, it's probably for she's done so much to get here and that goes so overlooked, and I don't think that's right. "So don't blame that shit on us when y'all not the ones that's supporting them".
"I feel we need to put these girls in more magazines and blogs". Cardi enthused: "They don't rap about they vajayjay, they don't rap about sucking dick, and they dope ass rappers!" "Radio DJs play these girls", Cardi said.
