Arsenal's Ozil and Kolasinac escape knife-wielding attackers

Kolasinac defends Ozil after knife gang attack

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has reassured fans that he, his wife and his team-mate Sead Kolasinac are "doing well" following an apparent carjacking attempt.

And with both escaping unharmed, the Bosnia and Herzegovina worldwide posted a photo of himself and his team-mate in Arsenal tracksuits as they prepare for the Emirates Cup on Sunday.

Both players are regular customers at Likya restaurant in Golders Green, according to Ms Tahsiner.

She said she, as well as the passengers in the auto, saw the attackers wielding a metal weapon, although they did not believe it was a knife.

Ozil spotted the tweet and replied: "If you look closely....you can see your trophy cabinet".

The midfielder was in the company of his wife Amine and Gunners teammate Sead Kolasinac in north London when the armed men tried hijacking his £100,000 Mercedes.

In a video that has circulated on social media, full-back Kolašinac, 26, is seen defending himself against two men who are wielding knives. "Then when they tried to attack him, he tried to go inside the vehicle".

One of the witnesses, Azuka Alintah, told the Daily Mail: "Ozil looked absolutely terrified, as anybody would after being chased by men with knives. When Ozil drove the auto, they chased them with the motorbike for 15 minutes".

"He told me that his [Ozil's] manager said to him they bought a new watch and they believed they were following them and they tried to steal from them".

The owner of the property outside which the footballers were attacked has said he has been targeted five times in the same area.

"From the other door, the attacker tried to go inside of the vehicle as well".

A Scotland Yard spokesman told the BBC that the suspects on the mopeds had attempted to rob Ozil.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said no arrests have yet been made in connection with Thursday's incident. The driver of that auto, along with a passenger, were able to get away unharmed.
