Designed from the ground up, it's the first Honda to be built on a dedicated EV platform.
According to Team-BHP, Honda says the platform will feature 50:50 weight distribution, and a low center of gravity because the batteries will be housed under the floor and in the center of the platform.
The platform offers a combination of ride comfort and agility.
Powering the vehicle will be a water-cooled 35.5 kWh Lithium-ion high-capacity battery which will be able to be charged using either a Type 2 AC connection or a CCS2 DC rapid charge. The suspension, which includes forged aluminium components, is fully independent.
The fast charging system will only take 30 minutes to charge the battery to 80 per cent capacity, and the vehicle provides a range of around 200km. The positioning of the charging port allows easy access from the front of the auto or from either side.
All the above, when combined with the Honda e's small footprint and short overhangs, makes city driving enjoyable and tight manoeuvres in urban environments effortless, the Japanese carmaker says.
The central charging port is on the bonnet, just above the front Honda logo and it includes at-a-glance LED indication of charging status, visible through a glass panel. Inside, the hatchback gets two touchscreen displays which will also show graphic charts of power consumption, flow and regeneration and recharging status.
The battery pack is water-cooled to maintain an optimum thermal state therefore maximising the efficiency of the battery and charge state, while also ensuring its size and weight are minimised so that it does not compromise cabin room.
A lot of people want to buy a Honda e. 31,000 people have so far "expressed interest" in the cute little EV - a whopping 9,000 of them in the UK.
And to keep 'em keen until the production auto is properly revealed later this year, and deliveries begin, Honda is drip-feeding info.
