No Man’s Sky, Fans Finance a Billboard to Thank Hello Games

No Man's Sky Fans Buy Ad Outside Hello Games Office To Say Thanks

In particular, the mid-2018 "No Man's Sky Next" update prompted a broad re-evaluation of the game's merits.

No Man's Sky has come a long way since its rocky launch thanks to developer Hello Games, and some of the game's fans have gone to some impressive lengths to show their gratitude.

And as you'd expect, Sean Murray is taken aback by all of this. The numerous bugs didn't help, either. What's more, the crowdfunding campaign for the billboard has been so wildly successful that they're also tossing in a lunch for the developers and, more importantly, a serious donation to a charitable cause. The new features and graphical overhauls worked, and by July 2018 NMS had climbed into Steam's top 10, reaching 90,651 concurrent players and with its rating moving from Mixed to Very Positive.

As a token of their appreciation, fans launched a crowdfunded campaign on GoFundMe to purchase billboard space near the Hello Games office.

The campaign quickly exceeded all expectations however, raising its intended $1,750 goal in less than a day.

According to the fundraising page, the next possible window to buy the billboard is for a 2-week period near the middle of August 2019.

With the crowdfunding efforts almost doubling the requested $1,750 (presumably required to rent the billboard and have a poster produced) it is not located outside the Hello Games offices in Guildford (UK).

Just in case you thought this outpouring of support couldn't get any more wholesome, Cam G also confirmed that because this crowdfunding campaign has already raised almost double its $1,750 goal, excess donations will "be used to buy games and donate them to disadvantaged [or] sick kids" through local charities.

The billboard isn't actually up yet, and the design seen in the image is a mock-up created by GoFundMe organizer Cam G, who said they're open to changing it to ensure everyone who backs the campaign is happy.

"I just want to say thanks to everyone who donated; all excess funds will be going towards giving games to sick kids".
