Konami announces the Turbografx-16 Mini

Konami enters the tiny console business with the TurboGrafx-16 Mini

A lot of companies have released bite-sized plug-and-play versions of their 90s consoles now. "More than that however, the consoles became a collector's favorite thanks to their quality games line-up; many of which will be included in this re-release".

Known as the PC Engine in Japan and the TurboGrafx-16 in North America, distribution issues and the dominance of Sega and Nintendo meant NEC's late '80s home console could not find the global audience it might have otherwise deserved.

Nintendo got the ball rolling with the NES and SNES Classic, Sony followed with the PlayStation Classic and Sega's Genesis Mini is on the way and now fans of retro gaming can look forward to adding the TurboGrafx-16 to their collection.

A faithfully scaled-down version of the original TurboGrafx-16 design, right down to the smallest detail.

The PC Engine was a hybrid 8/16-bit system by NEC Corporation (formerly NEC Home Electronics), designed by Hudson Soft (now owned by Konami).

An official website is already available for all three mini-consoles. This includes the ability to save game states, called Quick Save here, as well as various display modes including those that replicate scanlines. The multi-tap add-on is sold separately.

A debut trailer shows the PC Engine Core Grafx Mini, PC Engine Mini, and TurboGrafx-16 Mini side by side.

Konami has yet to announce a date or price on the Turbografx-16 Mini. The PC Engine CoreGrafx Mini will also get the same games, while the Japanese package will be different.
