Dominican authorities bust three more in David Ortiz shooting

Police: Suspects in David Ortiz Shooting Were Paid $7,800; 6 in Custody

The video shows a meeting between the suspects, as well as the shooting.

The bullet struck Ortiz in the back and went through his stomach, police said.

The victim, who was shot in the groin but survived, told authorities that Rivas-Clase had threatened to kill him several days earlier if he did not leave town, said Reading's deputy police chief, Osborne Robinson.

Ortiz was recovering at Massachusetts General Hospital on Thursday and "continues to heal and make progress", his wife said.

Investigators recovered the gunman's firearm buried in the home of one of the suspects in the province of Mao, police said.

Police have described the shooting as an attempted contract killing but haven't disclosed who ordered the hit, or why. The Boston Globe reports that Ney Aldrin Bautista Almonte, director of the DR's national police, announced Wednesday that investigators have determined the men were offered 400,000 Dominican pesos, which works out to around $7,800 USA dollars, to kill Ortiz.

Authorities also say Ferreira Cruz, 25, is wanted by New Jersey authorities for two armed robberies in 2017.

CNN reported Friday afternoon that authorities in the Dominican Republic disputed the report, saying Cruz had admitted to them that Ortiz was the target of the attack.

Other suspects under arrest in the Dominican Republic were identified by police as Eddy Vladimir Feliz Garcia; Reynaldo Rodriguez Valenzuela; Joel Rodriguez Cruz; Oliver Moises Mirabal Acosta; and Polfirio Alende Deschamps Vasquez. "I was confused." Cruz claims "they only told me the color of his clothes", appearing to indicate he didn't realize it was Ortiz when he fired the shot.

Ortiz was rushed to a hospital in Santo Domingo and underwent an operation in which doctors removed parts of his liver and small and large intestines, officials said.

Ortiz, 43, was at a Santo Domingo nightclub Sunday night when he was shot in the back.

"David remains in guarded condition in the surgical intensive care unit following his second surgery", the statement said.
