David Ortiz's 'hitmen' offered $8K Dollars to carry out dirty deed

Surgeons in the Dominican Republic operated for six hours to fix his wounds before Ortiz, who ended his 20-year Major League Baseball career in 2016, was flown to Boston once he was in a stable condition on Monday before having further surgery.

He was charged Tuesday as an accomplice to attempted murder, while Martinez Perez was arrested Wednesday and is being questioned, according to NBC News.

Police described the shooting as a "sophisticated hit job" involving two vehicles and multiple suspects who tracked the former big leaguer while he was at a club with friends.

Berks County District Attorney John Adams said he believes Luis Rivas-Clase to be the suspect wanted for a Reading, Pennsylvania, shooting in April 2018, although confirmation would have to come through a fingerprint match.

Ortiz was at the Dial Bar and Lounge in Santo Domingo on Sunday night when a gunman approached from behind and shot him at close range in the torso, authorities said.

Shortly after the shooting, Ortiz was rushed to a local hospital and was in the intensive care unit after being treated for bleeding in his liver and having portions of his intestines and gall bladder removed, said Leo Lopez, his spokesman. Authorities added that neither the leader of the group nor the motive have been determined.

Police Maj. Gen. Ney Aldrin Bautista Almonte said the alleged coordinator of the attack was offered 400,000 Dominican pesos, or about $7,800, to carry out the shooting.

"Since this individual would be subject to charges in the Dominican Republic, the chance of us getting him back is frankly far-fetched", Adams told The Associated Press.

Mirabal Acosta was arrested Tuesday in the town of Mao, in the northern Dominican Republic. Ortiz appeared in more than 2,000 career games as a designated hitter, but Big Papi's retirement after last season takes away one of few remaining players whose primary job is to hit. Ortiz hit 541 home runs with 1,768 RBIs in 2,408 games in the majors.

"I know, from the video and the information that's been put out, that he's one of those responsible, and he needs to pay for what he's done", the father said. He was named an All-Star 10 times and helped the Red Sox win World Series championships in 2004, 2007 and 2013.
