Six men have been arrested in the ambush shooting of former Boston Red Sox slugger David "Big Papi" Ortiz, as he sat in a nightclub late Sunday in his native Dominican Republic, authorities said.
As the search for Luis Alfredo Rivas-Clase aka "The Surgeon" continues with the suspect still at large, nine other suspects have been arrested for their involvement in the David Ortiz shooting last Sunday (June 9).
Mr. Ortiz, a 43-year-old retired baseball player still beloved in Boston for his role on three World Series-winning teams, was recovering at Massachusetts General Hospital on Wednesday after being flown there late Monday on a plane provided by the team and undergoing surgery.
Dominican authorities occupy now not published who ordered the hit on Ortiz or why he used to be focused.
Ortiz was in his birthplace of Santo Domingo when he was shot.
Secreto, a prominent Dominican hip-hop artist who was with Ortiz at the time of the shooting, said Thursday via Instagram that he initially thought he was the intended target.
Ferreira-Cruz, of Reading, Penn., is also facing armed robbery charges in New Jersey. Tv host Jhoel Lopez became also shot.
Ortiz can then be seen slumping to his left and falling out of his chair as frightened bystanders rushed from the scene, while off camera one of the suspects, Eddy Vladimir Féliz García, was beaten by the public before police arrived to take him into custody. "He continues to heal and produce development", Ortiz's companion, Tiffany Ortiz, talked about in a observation released by the Red Sox on Thursday morning.
Ortiz immediately underwent surgery on the island nation, where doctors had to remove part of his intestines, colon and liver. "What matters is the investigation and what he said in the interrogation", said Erick Montilla, according to CNN. They were slated to be indicted Thursday, but the indictment was pushed back until Friday because one of the suspects did not have an attorney.
A surveillance recording from the Santo Domingo bar Sunday night shows the gunman approaching Ortiz and shooting him at almost point-blank range.
