Coutinho makes honest revelation about last season at Barcelona

Coutinho: My Barca performances have been worse than I expected

Liverpool supporters hijacked Barcelona's birthday post to Philippe Coutinho by reminding their former midfielder of their recent Champions League triumph.

Coutinho managed just eight goals and five assists across 46 combined La Liga and Champions League outings during 2018/19, leading to reports linking him with a return to the Premier League and the player coming under fire from sections of Barca's fanbase.

PSG captain Thiago Silva has also made the Seleção squad for the tournament and has backed Coutinho, claiming he has looked much happier on global duty.

"I have not had a good season", said the 26-year-old.

"My performances have been a lot worse than I expected they would".

"But you can only gain confidence through working hard, which is what I have done and what I will continue to do", noted Coutinho, who is still hurting after seeing former club claim the Champions League. The little Brazilian consistently improved to become a star at Anfield before opting to leave for Barcelona.

Coutinho's had a hard year at Barcelona.

"I'm very happy and not at all uncomfortable talking about this player because we are very close".

"I think he probably regrets his decision", Werner was quoted as saying to Liverpool Echo.

A good performance in this summer's tournament could go a long way toward clearing up Coutinho's club future, which is considered tenuous at Barca.

The Brazilian playmaker made a €120million move from Liverpool to Barcelona in January 2018 and initially enjoyed success at Camp Nou.

Another posted a picture of club captain Jordan Henderson lifting the Champions League trophy.
