Audi Recalls Tesla Killer E-Tron Electric Vehicle

Audi is recalling its first all-electric vehicle due to risk of battery fires

According to Audi, there have only been five cases globally of the battery warning light illuminating that are related to this potential pack-seal issue.

Under certain circumstances, Audi says, moisture could seep into the vehicle's electrical system, presenting a risk of an electrical short and potential fire.

Vehicles the recall does not affect are still available for delivery and the reservation system to order an e-tron is still open. It is unclear if the campaign will delay further deliveries, as the fix is not expected to become available until August.

"We regret any inconvenience caused to our customers and reservation holders", said Audi, adding that customers will be offered "a service loaner, $800 cash card, and complimentary Audi Care or reimbursement".

The steal of Audi's e-tron comes a few month after the automaker started delivering the auto to potentialities.

The E-Tron is the first mass-produced electric vehicle from Audi with 540 sold in the U.S., Bloomberg reported.

The recall is voluntary, a Jaguar representative said, and affected customers will soon receive a letter asking them to reach out to their dealership to schedule a software update for their vehicle. Last year, for example, the electric vehicle maker voluntarily recalled 123,000 Model S built before April 2016 due to excessive corrosion in the aluminum power steering bolts supplied by Bosch.

It should be re-noted that no actual incidents have been reported.

Audi and Jaguar are recalling their new electric vehicles over safety concerns stemming from technical problems.

The e-tron and I-Pace are among the early entrants in a wave of luxury and mass-market electric vehicles that are set to be released in the coming years. Do not, under any circumstance, try to charge your electric vehicle while it reports an issue with its battery. Clearly, Audi doesn't want any bad press from potential electric vehicle fires.
