AC Milan appoint Marco Giampaolo as new head coach

Having already covered this story a couple of times, it's fairly clear that Milan have some interest in Arsenal's Lucas Torreira, regardless of how hard it would be for the Italians.

The 51-year-old, who will take over on July 1, also has an option of a third year as part of a deal reported to be worth two million euros ($2.2 million) annually.

AC Milan are expected to name Giampaolo as their next manager soon and he had a huge effect on Torreira's career during their spell together at Sampdoria.

Giampaolo replaces Gennaro Gattuso, who stood down in the wake of Milan's failure to secure UEFA Champions League qualification.

The arrival of Giampaolo is the first major decision made by the new backroom duo of Paolo Maldini and Zvonimir Boban, Milan's new technical director and chief football officer respectively.

Giampaolo led Sampdoria to ninth-place last season having previously coached Empoli, Brescia and Cagliari.

AC Milan, seven-time champions of Europe, have not played in the Champions League since 2013-14.

Having grown impatient with his former club's unwillingness to push on and spend money in the transfer market, I Rossoneri now provide the flawless platform for the 51-year-old to hone his skills as a football manager.
