YouTube beauty star James Charles haemorrhages 2.5m subscribers in bitter feud

His immensely popular makeup tutorials had landed him a position as the first male spokesmodel for CoverGirl. He had amassed more than 16 million subscribers to his YouTube channel.

Now, in a matter of days, Charles has lost almost 2.5 million of those subscribers and counting.

PewDiePie "couldn't imagine" why Tati addressed her beef with Charles in such a public manner, rather than hashing it out between the two of them - and even felt she was using their feud to advertise her own vitamin brand, Halo.

In April, when Charles promoted Sugar Bear on his Instagram account, Westbrook saw it as a betrayal. She had been established in beauty YouTube when Charles came on the scene a few years ago. "And I'm just trying to find the middle", Westbrook sobs.

Within the esoteric world of Beauty YouTube (and along its adjacent fringes), this schism between virtual titans of actual industry made for a showdown that drafted armies of followers into the fray, splitting millions of clickers into warring new factions across several social media platforms, elevating one contender while effectively "canceling" the other. They dress casually. They speak quietly. They believed that his apology was insincere. And they're right. From the influencers to the clickers who give them their influence, no one comes out of this looking very good. "I am so disappointed in myself that I ruined a relationship that did mean so much to me". "But I didn't think it would get to this magnitude".

The famous beauty vlogger ended up losing over three million subscribers and business deals. Some channels are live-streaming Charles's shrinking audience. Don't abuse your fame.

After Westbrook's May 10 video, Charles-who was in Australia promoting a pop-up shop for his merchandise-took to YouTube to deliver this apology.
