Why send a US aircraft carrier to the Gulf?

An EU statement called on Iran to continue to implement its commitments under the 2015 deal

"Now they our opportunities for us".

"It is still unclear to us what the Iranians are trying to do and how they are planning to do it, but it is clear to us that the Iranian temperature is on the rise as a result of the growing USA pressure campaign against them, and they are considering retaliating against USA interests in the Gulf", an Israeli official told Axios. "They've made a range of statements regarding activities they have threatened to do in order to acquire the entire world to jump", Pompeo said.

He added, "If (the Americans) make a move we will hit them in the head".

His comments came amid rising tensions with the U.S., which last week deployed warships and warplanes to the Gulf. If it chooses unwisely, it will face the full fury of the United States of America. "The Iranians may well react, which provides casus belli to these nuts".

Iran has dismissed both moves as "psychological warfare" created to intimidate it.

Gates said a conflict between the United States and Iran would have "tremendous unforeseen consequences in the Middle East" that would be "very, very dangerous".

Yet even without these movements, the USA has maintained a vast network of bases across the Persian Gulf dating back to the 1991 Gulf War against Iraq.

The president said, "The election that is going to be held at the end of this year can be a symbol of unity and solidarity if we are kind and sympathetic towards each other".

The developments come amid increasing tensions between Iran and the United States which escalated on Wednesday, when Tehran announced that it would backtrack on some of its "voluntary" commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

"In fact, we should have at least started the partial withdrawal from the deal past year after America withdrew". He was referring to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the Obama-era agreement which granted Iran economic sanctions relief in exchange for letting in worldwide inspectors and curbing its nuclear activities.

Iran can stubbornly maintain its stance in the hope that either Washington shifts its position or there is a change in the U.S. presidency, but this would require Tehran to wait 18 months and risk having its regime collapse from within.

While Iran has continued to enrich uranium to the low level needed for medical purposes and generating electricity, it has exported 98 per cent of its production, earning sorely needed foreign exchange.

Earlier his administration had rejected further talks with Iran unless it first withdrew from Syria and jumped through 12 such hoops.

Administration officials said the sanctions are created to bite Iran's economy beyond the oil sector, which provides most of the nation's wealth, and that Mr. Trump is prepared to go further if provoked.

Still, Pompeo stressed that he would "welcome" a call from Tehran, but that sanctions and American military posturing would continue unless the Iranian government "changes its behavior".

Despite increasing pressures and threats, there is no indication from various Iranian media sources and statements by Iranian officials that Tehran is fully aware of the risks involved in its brinkmanship and tit-for-tat policy with Washington.

Addressing the political activists at the meeting, Dr Rouhani presented a statistical report on the current situation in various economic fields, adding, "You, who are political figures and are in parliament and other positions and familiar with the political issues of the country, must understand today's facts and find out the best and least costly solutions". Washington's Kurdish allies fear they will be abandoned to Turkey which has promised to expel them from the border zone.
