There are two reports of incidents involving the recalled chests, one in which a 2-year-old child was killed and another child was injured.
South Shore Furniture has recalled their Libra style three-drawer chests after the death of a child. The chests are 27-and-a-half inches high, 31-and-a-quarter inches wide, and 15-and-a-half inches deep.
The chests were online at Walmart, Amazon, Target and other retailers from October 2009 through July 2018 for about $60. In some cases, the dressers have been sold as part of a bedroom set.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission said the units are unstable if not anchored to the wall, which poses "serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in death or injuries to children". Model numbers are on a label on the back of the chest. Consumers may also receive a free tip-over restraint kit with one-time free home installation of the kit. Consumers may also remove the drawer slides from one side of the dresser.
One resulted in the death of a two-year-old child, while the other resulted in a child receiving minor injuries such as bruises and scratches. South Shore Furniture will send packing as well as a prepaid shipping label to return the drawer slides for a full refund.
