SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Delayed 4 Months After Teething Debacle

Sonic movie delayed to ensure “no VFX artists are harmed” in the hedgehog’s redesign

Turns out, it's going to take another three months to correct the appearance of the titular hero in the forthcoming live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie, work that began nearly immediately after fans got their first look at Sonic's unsettling appearance ahead of the movie's November release.

While normally the public doesn't really know what causes these kinds of delays, this time the public caused this delay thanks to the barrage of complaints levied against the design of the titular hedgehog after the first trailer dropped in April.

This should allay any fears that artists working on the Sonic film are being put through extensive hours of crunch to get the project finished, with Fowler's tweet accompanied by the hashtag "novfxartistswereharmedinthemakingofthis movie", alongside the new release date.

Fans were particularly upset about Sonic's teeth, Vulture reported.

Are you happy to hear the movie seems to finally be receiving the care and attention Sonic deserves? "You aren't happy with the design & you want changes".

"Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be", Fowler said at the time.

The movie was meant to be out this December and as the visual effect work was already progress redesigning Sonic and getting the movie out on time was clearly a tall order.

Sonic the Hedgehog will now be released next Valentine's Day.

Paramount has two big event films in November: the James Cameron produced Skydance film Terminator: Dark Fate which is a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day on Nov. 1 and the Eon/IM Global Blake Lively spy film The Rhythm Section on Nov. 22. The cast also includes Tika Sumpter as Dr. Annie Wachowski, Neal McDonough as Major Bennington, and Adam Pally.
