Pujols gets 2,000th RBI with HR; fan keeps ball

Albert Pujols reaches 2,000 RBIs and Angels rout Tigers 13-0

The fan who caught the home run that Albert Pujols launched Thursday in Detroit, representing the Los Angeles Angels slugger's 2,000th career RBI, declined to give the baseball to Pujols, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.

Pujols is believed to be the fifth player in Major League Baseball history with 2,000 career RBI.

Pujols belted a fastball from Tigers left-hander Ryan Carpenter into the right-field seats during the Angels' 13-0 victory.

He received an ovation from the crowd at Detroit's Comerica Park.

"He's one of the greatest hitters ever to walk the planet, without question", Angels manager Brad Ausmus said. "Really, it went from Pujols to [Miguel] Cabrera to Trout, but Albert's body of work is clearly the best". The Tigers organization say that any ball that enters the seating area at Comerica Park can not be authenticated by MLB, meaning the baseball won't be worth anything at all. Out there, a fan named Ely Hydes ended up with the ball, and then there was a small problem: He didn't want to give it back.

RBIs became an official statistic in 1920. Interestingly, only Babe Ruth is not a member of the 3000 hit club, and Cap Anson is the only member of this group that did not have at least 600 career homers.

"To win games, you have to drive runs in", Pujols said.

"We end up winning the game and winning the series".
