May 1 (Gadchiroli): At least 16 persons, including 15 security personnel, were killed in an IED blast triggered by Naxals in Maharashtra'sGadchiroli district on Wednesday, police said.
Hours after Maoists set ablaze around 30 vehicles in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli, 15 security personnel were killed in an IED explosion on Wednesday - making it the 53rd incident of Maoist-related violence across the country this year, according to data compiled by the South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP). "My thoughts and prayers are with the martyrs´ families", Fadnavis said. "The incident took place at Dadapur (also known as Ramgad) village in Kurkheda taluka, which is less than 6 km away from the Tehsil administrative office", said a police officer privy to the investigation.
Police teams are reaching the spot for evacuation operation, he said.
The state authorities had definite information and intelligence inputs, after the Naxals had already announced that they will carry out such an attack, Khera said.

A second police official put the death toll in the latest incident in the Gadchiroli region of Maharashtra at 15.
