Meet Alexa Guard, the smartest house guard by Amazon

Chris Monroe CNET

Discussing Ring, Amazon more often than not isn't extraordinary about fusing cross-usefulness between its home security items, yet Alexa Guard can be set up to arm your Ring security framework when you advise Alexa to turn on Guard mode. It listens for distinct sounds, such as breaking glass, as might happen if a burglar is trying to get inside, and also can detect the sound of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Away Lighting works with connected smart lights, plugs, and switches that are Works with Alexa-certified.

Alexa Guard is free for all Echo users and is rolling out to U.S. users today. It's in the process of rolling out to existing and new Echo owners in the US.

It's straightforward: What if the Echo speakers in your home could detect threats and then help make you instantly aware of them?

For a while now, you can use Alexa-supported Amazon Echo speakers like the Echo Dot (which I'm still reviewing at the moment) or any speakers plugged into the Amazon Echo Link/Link Amp, or even the Sonos One speakers to play your favourite music via Alexa voice commands. It delivers down-firing, 100W of bass through its 6-inch woofer, and you can pair it with an Echo or two to create a 2.1 stereo system.

"When you receive a Smart Alert from Alexa, it is up to you to decide what action, if any, to take", according to Amazon.

Amazon has a new Alexa feature, called Alexa Guard, that allows your Echo device to listen for potential signs of an emergency.

As homes turn smarter, the need to protect them also increases. To do so, users who are about to leave their home must say, "Alexa, I'm leaving". As part of that, Amazon is selling security-themed bundles, one each for Ring and ADT, and a third that is a smart lighting bundle.

Amazon's Echo Show (2nd Gen) is clearly among the cheapest smart speakers available on the market, but that's because it comes with a large display that offers users some extra functionality.

Guard isn't really a replacement for buying a home security system. It works with Ring, ADT Pulse, and ADT Control security systems.
