Lucky Diners Got Served a $5760 Bottle of Wine by Mistake

LUCKY It's a nice restaurant anyway but a bonus £4,500 bottle of wine sweetens the deal

Hawksmoor Manchester said on Twitter it hoped the customer had enjoyed their evening after being given the pricey 2001 bottle of Chateau le Pin Pomerol.

It was only after the meal that a manager discovered a staff member had grabbed the wrong bottle-a 2001 Chateau le Pin Pomerol, with a menu price of roughly $5,750, rather than the ordered 2001 Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. So when one steakhouse in Manchester, England, tweeted a "chin up" message to a server who made a very costly mistake, social media responded in a big way.

The restaurant told the employee "one-off mistakes happen" and added "we love you anyway".

It comes from Bordeaux's Pomerol appellation in the Catusseau hamlet of Gironde and only 500 cases of the 2001 vintage were made - hence the high price.

"It was a very busy night at the restaurant and a very simple mistake", Irena Pogarcic of Kitchen Communications told CNN. To the member of staff who gave it away, chin up.

A customer was unaware they were drinking a wine worth tens of thousands.

It was only afterwards that the restaurant's manager realised the mistake, the BBC reported. Listed under the "Rarities" section on the menu, it is indeed the most expensive at Hawksmoor.

On the website, reviewers described the bottle as "legendary" and a "once in a lifetime experience". Without a shadow of a doubt the restaurant manager will certainly hope the latter part of that statement proves to be true.

A manager at the Manchester branch of Hawksmoor, an upmarket chain specialising in steaks and seafood with nine sites across the United Kingdom, apparently picked up the luxury wine unknowingly in what the restaurant management described as a "one-off mistake".
