Indiana Pacers' Tyreke Evans dismissed from NBA for violating anti-drug program

Indiana Pacers guard Tyreke Evans faces a ban of at least two years

Tyreke Evans' offseason just took a turn for the worse.

Indiana Pacers free agent Tyreke Evans has been dismissed and disqualified from the league for violating terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program, it was announced Friday. Evans faces a two-year ban, at minimum.

Evans played 69 games for IN during the recently-completed season, averaging 10 points-per-game. He also missed three games late in the year due to personal reasons and a respiratory infection.

The Pacers released a statement on Evans' punishment shortly after the news broke.

Pacers general manager Kevin Pritchard declined comment at the National Basketball Association draft combine in Chicago. Mayo and Chris Andersen are the most recent.

According to the NBA's policy, a player can be dismissed and disqualified from the league for testing positive for a drug of abuse, or if he is convicted of or pleads guilty to the use, possession or distribution of a drug of abuse.

He has been in the league since 2009 after being drafted No. 4 overall by the Sacramento Kings.

For his career, Evans averaged 15.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists as a combo guard who often had the ball in his hands.
