HTC’s New Exodus 1s Phone Is A Bitcoin Full Node

Crypto Key To Crypto Adpotion HTC May Bring Blockchain Mainstream With Exodus 1s Nick Chong

HTC hopes that their full node smartphone will make it easier for app developers to build decentralized smartphone applications, thanks to the direct access to the bitcoin blockchain.

Chen spoke on Saturday at the Magical Crypto Conference in NY where he unveiled the new, low-priced version of the Exodus 1.

The EXODUS 1s will be the first smartphone to ever to have full node capabilities. This may sound somewhat arcane even for cryptocurrency users, the vast majority of whom don't run a full node, but it has important implications for the Bitcoin ecosystem.

HTC is also going to launch a software development kit (SDK) for its crypto wallet app, Zion Vault, with plans to open-source the code behind its social key recovery mechanism.

HTC said it will release more information on the exact specifications and pricing of the new Exodus 1s phone over the next few months before the device is released for sale in the second quarter.

As a result of these features, owners of the device will be able to verify monetary crypto transactions of any amount with the touch of a button. A device that acts as a Bitcoin node has to keep the entire blockchain history, which means that the device has to store around 200GB worth of data.

Other features that could appear on the Exodus 1s as a result of partnerships made by HTC include the presence of search bar widget for the privacy-focused search engine Qwant and support for Ethereum explorer Etherscan. And those numbers are reasonable to hold on a smartphone. The company had also revealed the actual specs of the blockchain phone that would be based on Android OS. "I see bitcoin as one of the most important if not the most important blockchains", he said. That said, HTC is not planning on adding support for any other networks explicitly at this time. Full nodes are the most important ingredient in the resilience of the Bitcoin network and we have lowered the barrier to entry for any person to run a node.

The full Bitcoin blockchain will be in an SD card, and people will be able to validate transactions when their phone is plugged in with a minimum requirement of bandwidth and power.
