Jose Cil, chief executive officer of Restaurant Brands International said with three iconic brands, the company has a long runway for growth, locally and globally.
The parent company of Burger King, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and Tim Hortons is primed for aggressive expansion in the coming years.
Tim Horton's President Alex Macedo mentioned in a statement that his company is simply responding to the growing demand of customers who are now looking into adding plant-based food items into their diets.
"If you ask us, we're still in the early days of this exciting growth journey", he said.
Founded as a single location in Canada in 1964, Tim Hortons appeals to a broad range of guest tastes, with a menu that includes premium coffee, hot and cold specialty drinks (including lattes, cappuccinos and espresso shots), specialty teas and fruit smoothies, fresh baked goods, grilled Panini and classic sandwiches, wraps, soups, prepared foods and other food products. Macedo also stated that they were pretty much excited to be partnering with the leading plant-based meat substitute producer in the world for their new menu items.
Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons announced Wednesday that - like its competitors - it will also be testing plant-based meat on three breakfast sandwiches.
According to the company, the global quick service restaurant (QSR) market is expected to grow 5-6% per year for the next five years. Beyond meat and its rivals such as Impossible Foods have recently ramped up their marketing efforts to promote their various plant-based products.
The new options comes as restaurants across the industry look to increase their plant-based protein options. The Lightlife burger will be available at 70 Kelsey's Original Roadhouse locations starting June 3.
