Ben Zobrist divorces wife Julianna for 'inappropriate marital conduct'

Cubs' Zobrist remains on leave amid divorce

Ben Zobrist, who turns 38 on May 26, is batting.241 this season.

Julianna, a Christian pop star, was the one to file on May 13, according to Cook County circuit court records (h/t the Chicago Sun-Times.) Julianna is listed as the plaintiff, and the filing cites "irreconcilable differences" as the grounds for the divorce.

Ben Zobrist's filing contends that his wife "has been guilty of inappropriate marital conduct which render further cohabitation impossible", tennessean.com reported, though the article did not elaborate.

When asked by reporters when he expected Zobrist to return, Maddon said he had "no indication". "I texted with him the other day and reminded him how much I care about him, how much we miss him".

Ben and Julianna Zobrist were just starting their marriage, their family and their dual careers when he first joined the Rays in 2006. They have three children together.

Zobrist is due more than $9 million for the remainder of this season in the final year of his four-year contract with the club.

Details of the matter are really not of interest from a baseball perspective, but Zobrist's absence does have an obvious impact on the Cubs' roster situation. He has helped the Royals and Cubs both win World Series crowns.

Ben Zobrist, the MVP of the 2016 World Series, also delayed reporting to spring training in February for what he and the team also called "personal reasons".
