YouTube Music rolls out free, ad-supported service for Google Home users

YouTube is finally coming to Amazon Fire TV, Prime Video to get Chromecast support

This information comes from a Google spokesperson.

On the other side of things, Google will flip the switch on Prime Video compatibility with Chromecast and smart devices that have Chromecast built-in.

"We're excited to bring the Prime Video app to Chromecast and Android TV devices, and to give our customers convenient access to the shows and movies they love", said Andrew Bennett, Head of Worldwide Business Development for Prime Video. "Bringing our flagship YouTube experience to Amazon Fire TV gives our users even more ways to watch the videos and creators they love". YouTube will soon be available on Amazon's Fire TV while Amazon Prime Video will show up on Google's Chromecast and Android TV devices, the companies said in a statement. The new app will allow users to sign into their personal accounts and play 4K content at up to 60fps on supported devices. Amazon Prime members get access to a limited music catalog via Amazon Prime Music; alternatively, Echo owners can pay $3.99 per month for access to Amazon Music Unlimited on their Echo speaker, or $9.99 per month for the full Amazon Music Unlimited platform on any device. Google's cord-cutting service YouTube TV and YouTube Kids will also land on Fire TV later this year. That means you will be able to cast your Prime Video, too.

It's likely that this new version of YouTube Music is a pre-emptive strike against Amazon, which is getting ready to launch its own free, ad-supported version of Amazon Music that will work with its own ecosystem of Echo and Alexa-compatible smart speakers.
