Worknesh Degefa and Lawrence Cherono win Boston Marathon

Andrea Joyner reaches Mile 21 after cresting Heartbreak Hill during the Boston Marathon in Newton MA

Kenya's Lawrence Cherono led home the men's race in 2:07.57 with his compatriot Kenneth Kipkemoi in third behind Lelisa Desisa Benti from Ethiopia.

Joan Benoit Samuelson is embraced Monday by Boston Athletic Association CEO Tom Grilk after she finished the 123rd Boston Marathon. A mere two seconds separated Cherono and Desisa, who went step-for-step during the final stretch before the former crossed the finish line a few steps ahead of the runner-up.

After over 26 miles and two hours of running, it all came down to one second.

Linden finished in 2 hours, 27 minutes, almost 13 minutes faster than when she battled through icy rain to win in 2018.

A year after she withdrew from the Boston Marathon due to injury, Arroyo Grande native Jordan Hasay finished in third place at the marathon, according to a tweet from USA Track & Field.

Fauble and fellow American Jared Ward were also in the top 10, clocking 2:09:09 and 2:09:25 in seventh and eighth respectively.
