‘Vader Immortal’ Coming to Oculus Quest, Rift, Watch Story Trailer

Vader Immortal Trailer Reveals a New Star Wars VR Series

Collider's Perri Nemiroff gave the demo for Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series a go! The main storyline of Vader Immortal - Episode I is said to take between 45 minutes to an hour to play through, but the title will also include a standalone "Lightsaber Dojo" mode for more open-ended gameplay.

A description of the game on the official website reads: "Step into a galaxy far, far away and experience the first Star Wars story designed exclusively for virtual reality". When you're unexpectedly pulled out of hyperspace, you soon find yourself in the middle of a grand adventure - at the behest of Lord Vader himself. During the Celebration panel Colum Slevin, Head of Media, AR/VR Experiences Group at Oculus, revealed that the series will also be coming to the companys groundbreaking Oculus Rift family of headsets, including the upcoming Rift S.

The first episode has players take on the role of the captain of a smuggling ship called the Windfall, who, along with their droid sidekick Zoey (voiced by Maya Rudolph) is shanghaied by imperial forces and brought to Darth Vader's fortress.

"Much in the way Alan Tudyk did with K-2SO, we needed somebody for this role that could create a unique character using their improvisation and performance skills", said David Goyer. "As a fan, I've always wanted to feel what it's like to be close to Darth Vader".

Episode 1 of Vader Immortal will be released this spring for Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift. The fact that the Oculus Quest rig is entirely untethered is key here.

We've embedded the trailer below, which was shown off as part of the Star Wars Celebration event in the US.

The creators have gone out of their way to emphasize that this isn't a "game", but you will get to fend off blaster fire with a lightsaber and fight a droid, so there's obviously some level of interaction.
