Wilson's pay raise is significant. Miami also has the third-most cap space in the league and would have no problem extending Wilson for as long as he wanted to stay in Miami. No more rumblings of a bigger market for Wilson to call home.
"Hey, Seattle, we got a deal", says a shirtless and tired-sounding Wilson, his wife resting on his shoulder, in a video posted on Twitter. According to Adam Schefter, he got $140 million over four years, and a $65 million signing bonus. Still, top-5 and even top-10 National Football League quarterbacks don't grow on trees so 12th Men and Women everywhere should wake up feeling refreshed and happy. He's also coming off of what may have been his best individual year, so the extension is coming at a good time.
Russell, who is now "contractually tied" to the Seahawks through the 2023 season, surpasses Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers "richest" contract, which included a new-money $35.5 million annual average per season and a $57.5 million signing bonus. We got a deal.
When asked about a new deal on Monday at the start of offseason workouts, Wentz left the contract discussions to his agent.
Russell Wilson and Ciara have millions of reasons to celebrate.
Those terms make Wilson, 30, the highest-paid player in the NFL. The deal reportedly came after several days of negotiation.
The deal ends the debate about Wilson's future with the Seahawks, although there seemed to be little doubt he would remain in Seattle for a while.
But Seattle showed a year ago that it's a team on the rise again after missing the playoffs in 2017. The window that first opened when Wilson arrived could be open again after Seattle went 10-6 and reached the playoffs last season in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year. All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner is in line for an extension with his deal expiring after the upcoming season. Pass rush standout Frank Clark is set to play on the franchise tag. Defensive tackle Jarran Reed is likely to get paid as well.
While there may be rough times ahead for Seahawks fans while awaiting the fate of these players, everyone can rest easy for now knowing that Wilson isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
After winning the role as starting QB for Seattle in 2012, Wilson helped lead the Seahawks to the team's first Super Bowl victory in 2014, dominating the Peyton Manning-led Denver Broncos 43-8 (Denver would go on to win in Manning's final year in 2015). They certainly have the draft picks to send over with three first rounders this year and two in 2020.
Pet deer in Australia kills man, injures his wife
The family had kept the stag for six years and it was the only deer living on the property, along with a small number of sheep. A recent study into all deaths caused by animals in Australia between 2000 and 2013 found none had involved deer.
