New Palestinian government forgets 'heritage' clause while swearing in

Amal Hamad is sworn in as the minister of women's affairs

The new government is led by Prime Minister Mohammed Ishtayeh, a veteran peace negotiator and critic of the Islamist movement Hamas, which governs in the Gaza Strip.

The new government consists of 24 ministers from the Palestine Liberation Organization, or PLO, Abbas' Fatah Party, the Palestinian People's Party, the FIDA party and the Palestinian Popular Struggle Front, in addition to independent figures.

He also criticized the new Palestinian government as "a separatist government that doesn't include all factions and political powers".

Palestinian leaders said Israel was being empowered by US President Donald Trump to "violate national and human rights of the people of Palestine".

RAMALLAH, Palestinian Territory - The Palestinian Authority government has been sworn in a second time in as many days after the prime minister and his Cabinet failed to recite part of the oath.

The peace plan is being developed by Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, an Orthodox Jew whose close family ties to Netanyahu have heightened Palestinian suspicions over whether the United States administration can serve as an honest broker.

He said the Palestinians have rejected this deal from the beginning, "because it excluded Jerusalem from Palestine, and therefore we do not want the rest".

Since coming to power, Trump has proven to be perhaps the most pro-Israel American president in history, breaking with decades of worldwide consensus to recognise Jerusalem as the country's capital and Israel's control over the Golan Heights.
