Larry Bird receives standing ovation in Game 1 between Celtics-Pacers

Meet the Pacers Scouting what the Celtics must overcome in the first round

The Celtics lead the series 1-0, but have now defeated the Indiana Pacers four consecutive times.

Turnover killed the Celtics in the first half.

The Pacers finished with 33.3/22.2/57.1 shooting splits - a combination of Boston's strong defense and Indiana's inability to create good offense.

IN started the third quarter with a seven-point lead after a nice first half, but the Celtics started fast in the third quarter, scoring the period's first seven points to tie the game at 45. We can expect a better shooting performance from the Celtics this time around, but I'm not sure we can say the same for the Pacers. Game 1 will give us a good look at the individual matchups that will define the series but, on paper, nearly all of them go in the Celtics favor.

The Pacers, seeded fifth in the East, missed their first seven shots of the second half and mixed in three turnovers as their seven-point lead turned into a 47-45 deficit before Myles Turner hit one of two free throws with 7:02 left in the period. They continued to struggle to score and at the 5:21 mark in the final quarter, Boston led by 20, 79-59, and the game was effectively over.

When the third was said and done, Boston had outscored IN 26-8 IN the quarter and led 64-53. Without Victor Oladipo, the Pacers just don't have much firepower, and it showed in the second half. "I thought we lost a little confidence".

"They missed some shots, but we were really connected", he said. "They got the momentum and never let that go". Matthews canned two 3-pointers in the early going to help give the Pacers a 12-6 lead with 6:20 to go in the opening quarter. He also scored 20 points, along with seven assists and five rebounds in his first career playoff game with Boston. Jayson Tatum chipped in 15 of his own on 6-11 shooting and a ideal 3-3 from deep.

This is obviously not where the Boston Celtics were hoping to be but even with a season full of inconsistency and apparent chemistry problems, they have everything they need to make a run at the title. Those happen to be Indiana Pacers colors as well, but it was all green on Sunday at the start of what Celtics fans hope is a long postseason run. Boston outscored IN 26-8 IN the period.
