													Jared McCann.- MATT SUNDAY DKPS

Jordan Eberle scored his third goal in as many games Sunday as the New York Islanders took a commanding lead in their first-round playoff series with a 4-1 win over the host Pittsburgh Penguins.

Brock Nelson proceeded to give the Islanders the lead just over a minute later, then Leo Komarov and Anders Lee neeted in the third period to cement the win, which put team up 3-0 in a playoff series for the first time in almost 36 years. Matt Murray made 32 saves for the Penguins.

Game 1 was a back-and-forth battle between the Metropolitan Division rivals, with the third period seeing two goals by an Islanders and Penguins defenseman. He can add to his tally when the Islanders go for the series sweep on Tuesday.

The Islanders hold an 11-5 goals edge in the series.

The Penguins are 27-10 in their last 37 Sunday games.

If the Islanders felt any pressure while taking their first 2-0 postseason lead since the 1983 Stanley Cup final - when they completed their run of four straight championships by sweeping Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers - it didn't show.

The offense for Pittsburgh was stagnated in the Game 2 3-1 loss to the Islanders as it fell into a 2-0 series deficit.

"If we work hard and do the right things, we'll earn our bounces", Crosby said.

Now they find themselves in a spot that seemed improbable at best a week ago: heading to Game 4 with a chance to make Pittsburgh's playoff stay the shortest of the Crosby/Malkin era. "They're not afraid of competition". Erik Gudbranson gave the Penguins a 1-0 advantage with 9:24 remaining in the second period with an assist given to Evgeni Malkin.
