Infiniti reveals Qs Inspiration Concept's minimalist face

An electric idea

Infiniti's latest all-electric concept vehicle will make its first appearance at the Auto Shanghai vehicle show next week, but until then we caught a few glimpses of the Qs Inspiration.

The Qs Inspiration sport sedan concept follows the QX Inspiration crossover, which made its debut at the 2019 Detroit auto show, and the Q Inspiration sedan that bowed at the 2018 Detroit auto show.

Its flexible platform was developed to work with the electrified powertrains Infiniti has coming down the pipe.

Instead, Infiniti pushed the ball slightly forward by hinting that the production model based on the Qs could have a slightly higher driving position and that all-wheel drive would be standard on upcoming electrified models.

"For 30 years, INFINITI has built a reputation for introducing new technology that delights and gives confidence to drivers", said in a statement Christian Meunier, Infiniti chairman. An Infiniti spokesman said, however, the brand did not intend to export the e-sedan from China.

Automakers operating in China have to sell more new-energy vehicles, either battery electric cars or plug-in electric hybrids, to comply with official production quotas created to reduce smog.

Although this concept isn't set to go into production as is, it is likely to inspire future Infiniti sedans in terms of design.

Brand officials have said that from 2021 every Infiniti model launched will be either an all-electric vehicle or so-called "e-Power" hybrids, underlining Nissan's previously announced plan to make Infiniti primarily an electrified offering. INFINITI will electrify its entire lineup from 2021 onward.

Competition in China's emerging electric auto market is heating up amid an onslaught of models from startups including Nio and WM Motor, as well as those from major automakers.

Its design, especially the interior, would be majorly different to present models, design chief Karim Habib stated.

The vehicle will officially be unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show 2019 on April 16th.
