Beyoncé releases new album

Beyonce Knowles performs onstage during 2018 Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival Weekend 1 at the Empire Polo Field in Indio California

Her new documentary on Netflix titled Homecoming just went live on Netflix and along with it, comes a new album featuring live versions of all songs she performed at Coachella previous year. She was the festival's first black woman to headline, and the career-spanning set, which featured 60+ people on stage as a marching band and dancers, decked out in fictional Beyoncé university wear, was a schooling and celebration of blackness.

Beyonce first dropped an album without warning in 2013: the record "Beyonce" suddenly appeared in the iTunes music store with no advance notice.

While it's not an album of all-new music, there is a bonus track at the end of Homecoming! Covering 40 tracks - which comprises a vast bricolage of her own discography and others' - it features her cover of Maze's "Before I Let Go", her cover of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" and Blue's own take of the black national anthem. The rendition is also heard in the closing credits of her Netflix film.

The album of her festival performance accompanies the Netflix documentary, also called Homecoming and released at the same time, which details the 2018 show in California with appearances from her sister, Solange, her husband, Jay-Z, and her former group, Destiny's Child.

In 2018, following the 2017 release of JAY's album 4:44, he and Beyonce dropped a surprise joint album titled Everything Is Love.
