Another blast of severe storms aims for places still recovering from tornadoes

An Early Look At Thursday’s Storms

The Storm Prediction Center has raised the risk for severe weather for Alabama on Thursday.

Thursday's system looks a lot like what happened over the weekend: 10 total tornadoes in Alabama and at least 13 in MS (all EF-2 and lower in strength). NOAA Weather Radio, Live Alert 19, and WHNT News 19 will be on top of making sure you're in-the-know about any severe storms.

Large hail and damaging winds will be the primary threats as severe storms are expected to move across the Kansas City metro area this evening, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

The National Weather Service urged all Alabamians to pay attention to the weather on Thursday afternoon into Friday morning: "As usual, don't get too caught up in the colors on the map", forecasters said.

A potent, springlike storm system will bring a chance of storms to much of Texas.

"Very large hail in the 2- to 3-inch diameter range is possible with any sustained supercells that develop and is the greatest threat". The risk of a tornado is low, however, she said. The rest of South Texas, including San Antonio, is facing a "slight" risk (level 2 out of 5). That includes densely populated areas around San Antonio; Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kansas City; Wichita, Kansas; and Shreveport, Louisiana.

An enhanced risk is now in place for parts of west, south, and central Alabama on Thursday afternoon and evening as a cold front approaches.

Numerous parameters for severe weather will be in place - except moisture. The greatest threat will be across south central and southeast Kansas, where hail up to golf-ball size and damaging winds to 65 miles per hour will be possible.
