Xbox One Phantom White controller is official: Pre-order now

Microsoft's Translucent Xbox Controller Is Now Available in White

Microsoft has lifted the lid on another special Xbox One Wireless Controller, the Phantom White Special Edition, which is due to arrive at a retailer near you next month. While formerly tied in development, amid to several years of Xbox Insider Program testing, its surprise rollout brings a wave of new functionality for PC owners. The app will appear as an overlay when you're playing a game, giving you quick access to audio settings, Game DVR features, and Mixer streaming, complete with this new Xbox controller battery life indicator.

Gamers with grimy hands will want to steer way clear of Microsoft's new Phantom White Xbox wireless controller-it's the sort of thing that will highlight Cheetos residue in ways that darker controllers may not.

There are limitations to the Wireless Display app, as your can't stream protected content (like Netflix). There's a 3.5mm audio headphone jack for directly connecting a wired headset, Bluetooth for wireless connectivity, and support for custom button mapping via the Xbox Accessories companion app. Also, the app does not support mouse and keyboard input at the moment, so you'll be limited to games that have controller support. Indeed, the updated Game Bar can now show you how much battery you have left in your Xbox One controller, just like it works on the console. Latency is still a significant hurdle, far from an ideal experience beyond casual browsing and video. It's basically a Steam Link, but without the need to hook up yet anotherstreaming device to your display.
