The fight to finally decide the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world appears to have moved a step closer after promoter Eddie Hearn revealed he's had some very promising news on developments concerning a fight between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder.
Golovkin's deal with DAZN will see him fight twice per year.
Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing was also chasing Wilder with a contract offer in order to sign him and bring him to DAZN, where he has an output deal, for a fight with Joshua.
Wilder has since been ordered to defend his title against Dominic Breazeale but has reached out to DAZN - who broadcast Joshua's fights in the US - to discuss a potential bout.
WBA, WBO and IBF world champion Joshua makes his United States debut against Jarrell Miller at Madison Square Garden on June 1, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
"November/December", Hearn said when asked a possible date for the fight. "It's pretty clear that one fight people want to see is Joshua and Wilder".
"I think we've got a brilliant chance of making the Joshua fight", Hearn said on Saturday night at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York, following the Dmitry Bivol-Joe Smith Jr. light heavyweight title bout he promoted. I think this is a route that is going to be very beneficial to the making of that undisputed fight.
So, Wilder would be set up to earn $25 million apiece for two fights before fighting Joshua, providing he comes out victorious in both match-ups.
"They've got their work cut out".
"Now I think there's a strategy in place that could lead us to this fight".
"It's the biggest fight in world boxing by a long, long way", Hearn added. It will be the first time the 36-year-old has fought since Alvarez inflicted the first loss of his career in September.
The American knockout artist is expected to confirm a mid-May defence of his world title against mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale.
The double fight deal would lead into an undisputed heavyweight unification bout with Joshua over two fights in 2020.
