Real Madrid confirm first signing of Zinedine Zidane's second reign

Eder Militao in action for Porto against Roma in the Champions League

The defender will join Madrid on a six-year contract this summer after for a fee of €50 million, after they triggered his release clause.

Real Madrid have clinched a deal to sign the Brazilian defender Eder Militao, 21, from Portuguese champions FC Porto from next season, the two clubs announced on Thursday.

In a brief statement in Real Madrid's official website, the Los Blancos confirmed that the defender has penned a six-year deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, starting from June 30.

"He has been named the best defender in the league for the last five months in a row".

"Multi-purpose player, Militao plays central, although he has also occupied the right-back position".

Militao becomes the first addition made during Zinedine Zidane's second reign in the Spanish capital, with the Frenchman having moved quickly to land a top target upon returning to Real.

Militao has scored three goals for Porto this season, including one in the Champions League group-stage win over Schalke. It stands out for its speed, placement and ability to anticipate.

That will mean a significant profit for Porto on a player they signed a year ago from Sao Paulo in his homeland. "Qualities that he has worn since his arrival last summer at Oporto, where he has shown a rapid adaptation to European football".
