March Madness: Anyone Not Named Duke Worth Betting On?

The Leadoff March Sadness

As March Madness approaches, it's time to start researching teams that could make deep runs in the NCAA Tournament, so you can get an edge in your pool. Williamson then turned in a superhuman effort to lead Duke over the Tar Heels in the ACC Tournament - thing is Duke won by all of one point.

Gonzaga is the top seed but I don't see them advancing to the Final Four.

Moving across the bracket to the South Region, we find a group of 16 where Virginia is the No. 1 seed and Tennessee is the No. 2, with Purdue and Kansas State rounding out the top four. If it were purely players then Kentucky would have reeled off three straight titles when they pioneered the one-and-done and had teams stacked with National Basketball Association talent like Devin Booker, Carl Anthony Towns, and Anthony Davis.

In some seasons, one NCAA team with more star power than the rest of the field steals all the attention, allowing some of the other top seeds to slide under the radar.

We have once again made it to that time of year where we forget about the corruption of the NCAA for a few weeks and celebrate the majesty of the March Madness tournament. Before then, they could as easily be victims of upsets by much lower seeds.

Gonzaga will likely be an ill-tempered squad after suffering a 60-47 loss to Saint Mary's as 15-point chalk in the West Coast Conference Tournament final, which also marked the team's only straight-up loss in 22 outings ahead of Thursday night's first-round matchup at Vivint Smart Home Arena. Gonzaga. Guess who is the only team to beat Duke at full strength this year? Congratulations to the SLU Billikens for a gutsy four-game run that ended with a scintillating come-from-behind win over St. Bonaventure to win the Atlantic 10 title and a ticket to the tournament.

Virginia is number one but Tennessee is second.

Virginia, North Carolina, and Gonzaga all had respectable seasons.

For me, the only team that can give Duke any sort of trouble in this region will be Michigan State.

If Duke goes down before the Final Four, it will likely be at the hands of second-seeded Michigan State and tournament-seasoned coach Tom Izzo. When in a bind between two teams choose the ones that have elite level talent, good coaching and some semblance of team chemistry with upperclassmen.
