Google also discuss the usual boring bits such as the radius of the curve in the folded part of the display, something that current foldable technology limits. In the images, the device can be seen partially folded as well as fully folded. Another sketch shows the device folded in a "Z" shape. With tech behemoths reportedly working on their own versions of foldable smartphones, it is hardly surprising that a leaked patent of Google's purported foldable phone has made an appearance online.
According to the patent application, the device is said to include a foldable display that folds inwards. The patent itself features a screen with three panels that folds in two different spots using something called a "Z-fold display". Even MIUI, the user interface of the company based on Android could immediately undergo an ad hoc restyling in order to make the most of the versatility of the foldable display. The patent notes that the company is focusing a lot on the damage that could be caused to a foldable display when used in extreme cold weather.
Is Google building a foldable Pixel phone?
It should come as no surprise that Google is diving deep into gaming.
In the recent weeks, Samsung and Huawei have challenged each other with foldable smartphones during the MWC 2019 in Barcelona in which the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X were launched. Its Pixel phones have been slow to adopt multiple cameras and to shrink their bezels, unlike its major competitors.
In other words, if a Google folding phone is in the works, Google probably won't be in a hurry to reach the market with it, or use it to pioneer a unique Z-folding design. The Pixel 3 was produced by Chinese company Foxconn, for example. All I'm saying is, don't expect the folding Google Pixel (Fixel?) this Autumn alongside the Pixel 4 series.
