Further Details Revealed For Xbox Live Coming To Android And iOS Devices

Microsoft officially reveals Xbox Live for Android and iOS, but not Nintendo Switch

Xbox Live is heading to mobile.

According to The Verge who was on hand for the announcement, Xbox Live for Android will offer developers the ability to build party systems, messaging, Xbox achievements, Microsoft sign-in, as well as cloud saves into mobile games. The new SDK makes Xbox Live support available for all.

As Microsoft prepares for the next generation, the Xbox brand is expanding.

The new Microsoft Game Stack unites services such as Xbox Live, Azure, Visual Studio and PlayFab, the Seattle startup Microsoft acquired previous year.

"We believe so strongly in community, and Xbox Live really being at the heart of our gaming community", explains Kareem Choudhry, Microsoft's gaming cloud chief in a media briefing this week.

"If you've watched us for the past few years, we've taken a very inclusive approach". "Really uniting all those communities together with a consistent singular experience for those gamers". That includes includes a trusted identity network based on Microsoft accounts, a frictionless integration for developers (Xbox Live-enabled games were notoriously hard to develop in the Windows 8/Windows Phone era due to Microsoft's strict guidelines), as well as many ways to keep mobile gamers engaged with achievements, crossplay, and more.

It's a sentiment that seems to be propelling Microsoft forward at breakneck speed.

The company's head of gaming, Phil Spencer, has also added fuel to the fire. "Our vision [is people] should have the freedom to play the games that they want on the devices that they want with the people that they want".
