Page, who served as a special counsel to former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, has been criticized by Republicans for exchanging texts with Peter Strzok (a former FBI counterintelligence official) that were critical of Trump. The transcripts reveal the context of Page's texts to Strzok, including the idea of having an "insurance policy" in the case of his election.
Page visited Capitol Hill in July 2018 to speak to the House Judiciary Committee and the House Oversight Committee, both of which were controlled by Republicans at the time.
President Trump called out Justice Department over its possible mishandling of the email investigation in a tweet Wednesday.
"If there's an allegation, he, of all people, but everybody would want to know: if this is going on in my campaign I want you to tell me about it", Strzok said.
Strzok testified he was asked to review his personal phone and email accounts for any work-related documents.
In the transcript, Strzok said the debate over how aggressively to investigate the campaign explained the backstory of a cryptic August 15, 2016, text message he sent Page that has long attracted Republican attention.
Strzok said he "very much" regretted his text exchanges with Page, who also spoke with congressional investigators in July; a transcript of those proceedings was released earlier this week. The top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Doug Collins, released an interview transcript Thursday as part of a GOP effort to paint the early days of the Russian Federation probe as tainted by law enforcement bias.
In a statement Thursday, Strzok attorney Aitan Goelman said his client welcomed the release of the transcript.
Other revelations include: The FBI considered investigating President Trump before the firing of FBI director James Comey, the DOJ refused to pursue "gross negligence charges" against Hillary Clinton, Page worked with DOJ official Bruce Ohr's wife for at least five years, and more.
Strzok also said Comey initially concluded Clinton had shown "gross negligence" in how she handled classified information - a finding that could lead to charges - but dialed that back to "extreme carelessness" by the time he finished his memo.
Strzok also alleged that, once the Federal Bureau of Investigation got its hands on Clinton's private email servers, it was only allowed to search them with the consent of Clinton's legal team.
He said he didn't recall specifically writing it, but says he now thinks the "we" he was talking about was the country at large.
Chiefs release safety Eric Berry
The move to release Berry comes on the heels of the Chiefs releasing linebackers Justin Houston and Dee Ford . He tore his Achilles' tendon in the 2017 opener, sidelining him the rest of the season.
