Alleged Gambino crime boss shot, killed outside Staten Island home

Alleged Gambino Crime Family Boss Frank Cali Shot Dead Outside Home

Business Insider said Cali essentially was in charge of New York City's city's food industry and was worth an estimated $30 million. News accounts since 2015 said he had ascended to the top spot.

"Within recent months one of John Gotti brothers, Eugene Gotti, came out of federal prison".

Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea said there has been a slight urise in alleged mob-related violence in NY within the previous year.

Legendary New York Post and Daily News crime beat writer Murray Weiss, now a producer for CBS News' "48 Hours", extensively covered the Gambino crime family and told WCBS 880's Steve Scott he has a theory that Cali's murder may also have a connection to the Gotti family. "But I guess old habits die hard".

Charges against members of Mafia operations, including Gambino family operatives, have included murder, loan sharking, gambling and illegal drug distribution, Reuters has reported.

Cali reportedly became the Gambino godfather in 2015 and is said to have brought a new crop of Italians to NY straight from Sicily.

After prosecutors called him "a danger to the community" Pandrella, 59, pleaded not guilty in Brooklyn federal court to accusations of shooting Zito in his own home and stealing money from him. He was rushed to Staten Island University Hospital North, where he was declared dead.

Last October, Bonanno crime family associate Sylvester Zottola, 71, was gunned down at a Bronx McDonald's drive-thru as he waited for a coffee. Rudy Giuliani, then USA attorney for the Southern District of NY and now President Donald Trump's personal attorney, was handling the prosecution.

Cali had been considered a unifying figure in the years after then-Gambino boss John Gotti, "Dapper Don", was convicted of murder and racketeering in 1992 and sent to prison for life, CNN affiliate WPIX reported.

A law enforcement source who saw surveillance footage of the grizzly murder of Francesco (Franky Boy) Cali in front of his Hilltop Terrace home said that a man wearing a hoodie and a baseball cap executed the killing, according to the Daily Beast.
